Thank you. Is it frost sensitive? I'm in a lower area that gets a little more frost than in-town. We're not talking hard freezes, but maybe an occasional 28-30*, not sustained.

If I re-planted the Mexican sage, would I do OK covering it during a low temp?

It's reliably hardy in USDA Zone 7b in the non-Mediterranean, subtropical climate of North Carolina. You should be able to very well with no protection.

it may freeze back to the ground but usually grows back very quickly

One trick is to not cut-off any of the top until it warms in the spring then cut it back to the ground where you will probably see new growth sprouting from the crown. The tops will help protect the crown from the cold.

CA Kate- it looks like frozen sticks and breaks off near the bottom of the plant! No sight of new growth yet! Nancy

It grows reliably for me in Z8 and we get down into the teens. I do throw some dry mulch on it.
