You can also keep your eyes peeled for Malus 'Cinzam' aka 'Cinderella' a true dwarf flowering crabapple. One specimen planted in 1982 at Madison Arboretum in WI is 6' tall x 6' wide currently. I suspect at the time of planting it was likely a 2-3 tall specimen.

At any rate, those weeping crabapples are at a good height in #5 containers from forestfarm and at a very reasonable price & will take very well to pruning them however you may like.

I'd look at something like a hydrangea trained as a standard (tree-form). But even those will exceed 6' - that is very short for something considered a "tree".

What about a crepe myrtle? There are a billion different kinds.

My other thought is look for a dwarf Japanese maple with attractive samaras.

White Rain Weeping Yellowwood, or Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud?

Yellowood has compound leaves that resemble honeyocust, and those don't cast much shade. Also has Spring flowers. There is a weeping form I've never heard of.

A bit bigger then you want, but small trees still.

while you are googling.. do understand... that no tree .. ... really ever stops growing ....

so it will all be up to how much pruning/training you want to do.. over the years ...

many size estimates.. are at ten years ... and you can often double that at 20 ...

use latin names.. and use google images tab.. to see lots of pix.. and look to the bigger plants ...

it really sounds like you are trying to squeeze something into to small a space .. if you could give us a pic ... you might get some better suggestions for the space given ...

i too am leaning toward a shrub.. that can be renovated over few years.. as compared to a tree ...

Thank you, you are probably right. I'm still mulling over that corner. I would put a rose, but one died from RRD, so I was hoping for something with a weeping habit.
