Funny thing, this is an ikea oak top. The client wanted wood here and custom wood tops are so expensive. She picked this up and we designed the island to fit it. Quality was ok, great for the price ($300?) The house has oak floors so it was a nice color tie in.

Ours is a 1924 bungalow we are restoring - we are matching the original 2 inch red oak flooring into the kitchen. What a great idea using the Ikea countertop. I will have to see if this would work for my 36x66 island. And for that price the kids can destroy it all they want! Would you try to match the stain on the butcherblock to the floor? Or vice versa?

Careful as most wood stains aren't food safe. The island is only sealed with mineral oil, that's the natural oak color. Easy to repair too if it gets scratched.

Thank you for the information. I had no idea! I will start looking into options for a butcher block island. Love what you did in this kitchen. Really warms up the space!
