I agree, Dypsis lutescens, Golden Cane Palm. Areca is a totally unrelated genus of palms.

Must be just where you are. There are lots of Arecas sold here but the most common species people have are catechu and vestiaria. We don't refer to any Dypsis as "Areca".

Yeah, Areca or Butterfly palm is this one's common name, but it has nothing in common with the genus Areca.

Yet funnily enough on the Palmtalk website, which has a lot of the biggest palm experts as members in the US, it's called Dypsis lutescens and Golden Cane Palm.

Golden Cane Palm also (sometimes also referred as Madagascan Bamboo Palm... LOTs of common names.. one of the reasons I dislike using common names).

And that problem is by no means confined to palms.
