Appropriate chairs for dining?

last modified: 10 years ago

I have a round 60" table and only want seating for 4. Going for a Zen Bohemian thing. Would these work as dining chairs?31"W x 29"D x 39"H Seat: 17"H Arms: 26.5"H weight: 15 lbs

Since they tilt back so much, you want to make sure that the arms can be pulled under the table.

They looks like papasan chairs that you want to lounge in, fat, dumb and happy, after you eat.

You can get funky with paint and cushion colors and pattern, too.

These are also from World Market. The comfort factor looks a bit dubious to me, but you never know. I think these have a better tilt than the ones you've been considering, and they are specifically offered as dining chairs.

Okay, thank you. I was afraid they would be too lounge-like to work. I have a chair picked out that will work. But, am keeping my options open and hoping to find a rattan that will work. The biggest problem is the width. They need to be wide, because the table is so big. minimum 24 in wide

Why? Huge dining tables use regular chairs. You just have room for more of them, if needed.

I don't get why they need to be wide either. My round table is about the same size and I have 4 upholstered Parson chairs.

Because to me they look too small for the table. I prefer short and wide to tall and skinny. The chairs in the OP are actually taller than I would prefer. But, since the back was round and airy, I thought they would not be as obtrusive. If that makes sense.

The taller white chairs looks small to me, but the shorter wide desk chair looks like it fits. I'm sure it's just a personal taste thing.

This is the chair I will get if I don't find a wicker or rattan that works.

We had a version of those chairs when I was growing up. You can't hardly even get out of them, lol! Nice looking but beaucoup uncomfortable. At least ours were, ours didn't have the fan shaped curves in the back, it was straight rattan all the way, but same shape. We also have one like TR posted from World Market, except in metal. That one is pretty nice. I like all those other rattan/bamboo/wicker whatever ones, but if you think they are too narrow, that's your prerogative! :)

The first ones look terribly uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to sit in one, and if you have a hinky back these could injure you. I wonder if the Swedish demi-lune ones may look like dwarves since they don't appear to reach much above the top of the table.

I love those S&L chairs, but I agree -- not for dining.

    Thanls, everyone.

The Demi Lunes are the same height as the table. 31x24x24

I love a demi-lune around a round table. If they are the same height and you love them, I would get them. If you just feel so-so about them, I would wait.

Daisychains, I very much love the Demi chairs. I just wonder if I need something a little more eclectic. Not that they match. The table is very large and chunky, the chairs are more delicate.

The chairs pictured in the original post maybe bohemian but are definitely not zen. It is difficult to be calm and centered when you can't get out of a chair. Additionally, because of the design , you might not be able to get the chair close enough to the table to eat comfortably. They are really not appropriate dining chairs.
