If your plant is an evergreen azalea, it shouldn't be difficult for you to propatate from cuttings. You're a little early in the season though, depending on your climate consider waiting 10 more weeks or later. Detailed suggestions are Here, Cuttings - skip down to 'cuttings'. If your azalea is a deciduous type you may not have the same luck, at least I don't with my amateur attempts ;-)

One of the easiest ways is to do a ground layer. Pull a low-lying branch down. Bruise the stem a bit and push it into the soil. Place a rock over the branch area to hold it down. By late summer it should be well rooted and you can move it its final home.

Evergreen azaleas are fairly easy to propagate from cuttings if you have the right equipment. (Deciduous azaleas are a different story and cause much frustration.)

I've never tried to propagate them (the evergreen ones) at home, but I suspect you might have some success if you use a propagation medium (not potting mix) and if you keep them in enough humidity but with some ventilation to prevent mould.

I would do them when the plant is in flower. Just gently remove the flowers.

I bought an azalea from the local farmers market and plan to make some cuttings from it so I suspect I will soon find out how easy/difficult/frustrating they are when just using what I have here.
