varieties of fruit trees

Hi, I would like to grow pears and plums for sure. What varieties have worked well for you? I would love to hear about other fruit trees you have in zone three. I would also like to get an apple tree what would you recommend for out of hand eating?

Where do you buy them?

I am in a zone colder than you and there are some wonderful experts on this forum that are in your zone and grow many nice varieties of plums. So if you just put the word plums, or pears, or apple in the search engine for Far North Gardening you will get lots of threads that you can read.

But I will say that the Goodland apple is a wonderful eating apple that survives even here in protected sites. We can also grow brook gold, pembina and a few other plums.

Unfortunately Hardy Nursery appears to be sold out of everything I am looking for, any other recommended nurseries?

Not sure where you are, but i've heard good things about pepiniereancestrale.com. They ship everywhere in Canada except BC.

I have also bought here...Boughen Nursery

Thanks Mazerolm, I am in BC lol, I will have a look at Boughen Nursery.

There are two Boughen Nurseries, and they both sell fruit trees. One is in Nipawin Sk and the other is in Manitoba. I find it interesting that there are no fruit tree nurseries in Alberta? At least no online ones I can find.

Absolutely Konrad, I thought maybe they were already sold or I missed sending my response soon enough. I have been emailing you to find out how to pay etc. and have not been getting any response, what the heck?????? lol. I am confused. I guess the messages are going into the black hole.

Would you like to message me in Houzz, I will make sure I am following you so you can send a message. I don't want to put my email here.

    Here is one..Sprout Farms

Owner Amanda is back in business for several years after some years of rest with new help in the nursery by Julie & Joachim,..I have bought many trees over 15 years ago when the owner did most of the work but I go several trees mislabeled / some I never ordered. Hope it has gotten better. I confronted her when the red Tailman apple @ the fruit show, [from her tree],..she said this isn't Trailman apple, Trailman is yellow, I said, well, this is from your tree named Trailman, all she said,..well, that's what can happen when you have unreliable help. That was the end of the story and never bought again.
