Since last year I have started planning for kitchen renovation. I have been reading Houzz forums and creating idea books for my kitchen.

I had originally considered Elmwood cabinets. I love contemporary style in white color with high gloss finish. I met one designer (who is a dealer for Elmwood) for initial complimentary meeting. She showed me Elmwood cabinets in her showroom. Needless to say, they are gorgeous, but extremely expensive. The designer told me that less than 2% of her business comes from Elmwood cabinets because of their high cost. he also told me that if a client has problems with their cabinets, Elmwood takes for ever to solve and are not easy to deal with. Obviously her company does not have much bargaining power with Elmwood because of low volume business.

I was still set on Elmwood. But then I searched Houzz and other sites for Elmwood reviews. In my opinion, most of the reviews by 'clients' were not good. Majority of the good reviews for Elmwood came from 'colleagues', in other words who are dealers. Naturally they are biased reviews.

After reading these reviews, I dropped Elmwood from my consideration. Now I am deciding between Dura Supreme and Wood Mode. Hopefully by end of April, I will be giving a retainer to one of the designers whom I have met in the past few weeks.

In case anybody is still reading this thread. Yes it’s a pandemic with supply chain issues. BUT. My kitchen cabinets were ordered 24 weeks ago (May 28 2021) and each month they push the delivery date out by another month. Today is nov 8 but 2 weeks ago they told me “ sorry now it’s January 6th” just as they have done for the past 4 months in a row. Each month adding another 4 weeks.
Other high end custom cabinet makers in my area are reporting 8-16 weeks.
This doesn’t add up. Look around. Shop elsewhere

We are almost ready to order Elmwood cabinets. How are the cabinets now that you have them installed?

You have to understand that this level of cabinet is expensive period. In this class of cabinetry Elmwood is actual priced very well. They definitely lost their traction during covid, but most lines did. There are many analogies I could use here but to keep it simple, you really have to have an understanding of a cabinet companies build quality and the materials / options they offer. In the class they are in, they are not expensive, they are a pretty good value.
