I have seen one on our coral honeysuckle. I need to get busy and set out our 2-3 feeders. Love your neighbor story.

Oh, that's so sad about your neighbor, Dawn. But I'm sure you'll be able to handle the extra hummers.

I never get spring migrstors. Have tried for years. But, I have to wait for the mid to late summer population to show up. Sometimes the end of July; sometimes not until August.

Monarchs are also on the move. A late winter ice storm in the Oyamel forest killed many before they had left. They are guessing a 50% loss, which is a lot. They originally thought this year's population would be the largest in many years, and then the storm hit. I'm planting a lot of milkweed this year anyway.

I walked right up to one that was checking our my blooming Azalea bush Wednesday afternoon. I'm in Newcastle.

My feeders are waiting! I always get several every year and really enjoy watching them! I put out 3, but they still bully each other. I am in Enid.

Good to know - I'll get my feeders out tomorrow...just in case!
I, too, usually don't get any before July. Maybe the scout will see I'm ready and stick around with a few of his friends this year. :-D

I've had them visiting the coral honeysuckle too, but it seems like when the migrating ones arrive they just want to sit at a feeder all day and eat for hours, and that's how the hummingbird wars begin. I have had 3 feeders out for 2 or 3 weeks now but will add another 3 this weekend as their numbers are increasing.

We get a lot of hummers during spring migration, have a resident population that nests here in spring/summer and which we see all day long in nice weather, and then have huge hordes of them during the late summer/early autumn migration. My biggest hummingbird problem is that they hang out with me in the garden and often follow me up to the house, and sometimes into the house as well. Having a hummingbird fly into the open front door into a house with cats inside is not a good thing. One year a hummingbird kept following me inside and each time it made it indoors, it sat on a ceiling fan blade and spun around in circles. Maybe it was looking for an amusement park experience.

I hope y'all get hummer soon if you don't have them already.

Susan, She'd lived a long and full life and her husband had passed away a year or two back, and her health had been failing for a while, I guess. I hope whoever lives in her house now, or family members who live nearby, will keep alive her legacy of feeding the hummingbirds.

I was worried about the monarchs when that big cold front swept all the way down into the part of Mexico where they overwinter and found the news that so many of them had died to be quite distressing. We have not had nearly as many monarchs as usual here the last few years.
