Fenius...forgot to ask you, how do you like your magnolia 'Fairy Blush'? I took down an old tree & now have a open spot. I wanted to save it for a weiseneri but I don't think I'll ever find one <sniff>

    Happy Spring everyone! :))

My dwarf carnation smells amazing on this sunny day. And it's been blooming for over a month! Wow!

Bought two osmanthus from NurCar recently.. Fudingzhu is currently blooming. Smells so good.

I've been lazy and not posting so I snapped some pics today to rectify the issue. :)

Kemistry, what's the dwarf carnation's name?

Viburnum x juddii has been perfuming the backyard for two weeks now.

Finally got my Dendrobium kingianum to bloom. I like the scent but my partner doesn't. Figures.
My Convallaria majalis has one bloom spike. So far not so fragrant but we'll see.
Epiphyllum 'Fruhlingsgold' has one open bloom and smells wonderful outside.
And my freesias have been blooming like mad and the scent has been wafting and smelling wonderful.

Robert, it's called Dianthus Oscar Pink + Purple. I don't remember when I bought it, maybe 2 months ago, and it's been blooming ever since.
Really love the freesia. Need to grow them again next year. :))

I really like that dianthus too:)

Robert, is your freesia in the ground or in your fabulous basement?

I have a contained bed that has been taken over by lily of the valley, but they are only about 4 inches out of the ground right now. It's a very shaded spot. I'm trying to think of a better way to contain them as they can look messy in late summer. Flowers are so pretty and love the fragrance so I can't bring myself to take them out.

Haha. Freesias are in a pot initially in the basement when I first planted them so the roots could grow in a cool spot, then I brought them up under the lights in my bedroom and now they're happy outside. Gave my best spike to a friend today. :)

Second epiphyllum bloom opened. You can smell it a few feet away. Found out it's one of my partner's favorite flowers so I'd better not kill it! ;)

Trachelospermum asiaticum mandaianum putting on blooms for the first time!

NO ID Trachelospermum Jasmine continues blooming into April

Chilean yellow jasmine first time blooming

Osmanthus fudingzhu blooming again. All my plants are confused with the weird weather we are having in Virginia.

    Beautiful Columbines

Cheated and got some store bought annual.

Beautiful plants every one!!! It's not April here..More like February and still, days of subfreezing temps to go with snow before I can uncover my once beautiful shrubs cemented to the frozen ground once again..I am devastated with all the losses!

Any of you not living here should be very grateful!)))

Mike, hang in there and sorry for the shrub loss. :(

Jasminegal, nothing shameful with cheating. I picked up some Petunia 'Bravo Blue Vein' today simply because I enjoyed the vanilla scent and they were big and blooming. :)

Beautiful Robert and Dar! I can't wait for Mandaianum to bloom too Dar :)

I know how you feel Mike. I lost an azores jasmine last week to an unpredicted frost. I am running around covering all my newly planted perennials everyday of this week. Mornings are in 60-70's and nights are in 20's. Crazy weather!

My Asiatic jasmine has bloomed and wow the scent is totally different from the common star jasmine. It's akin to some water lily cultivars, especially those with Nymphaea odorata in their lineage. There is "weed" that grows sparsely in abandoned lots that has a similar scent. It has soft pink or baby blue flowers that looks like a small bindweed but it isn't as weedy.

Waah. Is it a keeper Dar? Do I need to get one too? :))

    That's a gorgeous Jasmine.

    I really want one.

This is stainless steel. Pretty rose. Lovely lemony fragrance. I bought it at the recommendation of the owner of my local nursery.

I saw sterling silver in bloom. Wanted it very badly, then the nursery owner said to get stainless steel. Which were not in bloom.

"Same rose, just on a better bush" is what he said.

Certainly beautiful. A lovely gorgeous rose. But not the same.

Kinda like comparing stainless to silver lol.

Distant drums doing the two toned thing I love.

Gorgeous myrrh fragrance. My boyfriend says it smells like spiced honey.

Not fragrant but exciting for me.

My pomegranate is really going all out with with blooms this year. It's year 3. Hoping this is the year for fruit.

    Just a small update.

Yesterday was a good day for roses. Well... The fragrance anyway. Hot, humid, and still.

Distant Drums is getting prettier every year. It got the colour thing down this year... Now if only I could get that gorgeous shape I know the flowers can have.

    Up next is Pillow Fights.

A small rose that's a cross between Pink Polyantha and Gourmet Popcorn. The usually faint smell of violets was wafting and sweet.

Next is Stainless Steel fully open. Not much else to say. It's a very pretty rose. Makes me want all the lavender roses.

Now I want a Sterling Silver...

Here's my first bloom from michelia laevifolia 'Inspiration' - just planted last year. Really love this plant. Lovely form & foliage, and the fragrance is like magnolia grandiflora but less intense. Scent is stronger than the species & flowers are larger & showier too:

my other osmanthus from NurCar, apricot echo, nice scent but doesnt seem to be as fragrant as fungdizhu

Hmm interesting to know. I thought the orangey flowered varieties were more fragrant. I wonder if anyone out there has the red-flowered cultivars?

I am really loving these nobile dendrobiums and went crazy on buying some more. Some of them have a subtle but pervasive scent. Not as cloying as Den kingianum. :D

Update: Because of the up and down spring weather we are having in Virginia other than my Osmanthus none of the plants bloomed. The buds either dried up or they fell from the plant :( I just hope the plants don't die.

    Jasminegal, so sorry. :(

I love sniffing old fashioned roses.

Think my fav for scent is Comte de Chambord (light pink) but Zephirine Drouhin (dark pink) and Sombreuil (white) ain't bad either.

Lots of blooms on my Michelia yunnananensis (aka laevifolia)

Echinopsis subdenudata--A light scent that is something like Jasmine tortuosum or Easter lilies.

Robert, if you're still looking for Sweet Chariot, they have it at High country roses.....

    Lovely photos everyone....

Truly amazing weather we've been having - garden is so happy:)

Honey bees all over apple blossoms

    Lilac 'Mme. Lemoine' smells wonderful

Azalea 'White Lights' has very slight scent - lovely colour!

Tree peonies alas have no fragrance but so gorgeous

I'm so incredibly jealous of those peonies.

There's peonies here called Itoh. But every time I buy one it dies.

And no one in the garden centers knows either.

A bad photo of an exciting new purchase. A Jasmine! Humile I believe. It's yellow!

Smells lovely. Very Jasmine like. I'm not familiar with it enough to really say though exactly what yet.

More towards poets or pink Jasmine though.

    Vietchii gardenia

My water lily is putting up nice big blooms again.

    Hey guys!!

April is overwhelming as usual I see..Maggie I love my fairy blush but scentwise, I don't find it all that different from doltsopa or even alba to tell the truth, they all range between melon ice cream with a little cinnamon dust sprinkled on top of some to my nose, if you are obsessed with the group like me you have to have them all of course.. Wieseneri is another one I 've been craving for years but still haven't found a reasonably priced one so I don't know how it compares..

I just got back from Rome's orchid show again so I'll try to make a post on that too..So here are mine from April:

First bloom on a rhododendron schlippenbachii I got last year and thought I had killed!!

Clematis montana mayleen bautiful scent, almond and flowery

    mitriostigma axillare

a zygo hybrid I love and managed to rebloom after 2 years, wonderful scent somewhat hyacinth like, btw mitriostigma also reminds me of hyacinths but not similar to this..

phal. lueddemanniana 'ragan' - just opened so no scent yet, will update

and some new entries from the show, phal violacea x buena jewel (exquisite perfume!!)

and dendrobium margaritaceum just opened so no scent yet, will update

Not fragrant blooms but they are all putting on a beautiful show!

I really enjoyed all these pics guys!

Fenius, I can't wait to read what the Den smells like. :D I have been eye-ing that one and am on the fence considering it.

Here I have Den Frosty Dawn and Den Formidible. Very light scent so far.

    Edit: Adding Gardenia Coconut Magic

Update on the scent: HOLY MACARONI! The scent is dramatically different from other gardenias. It has a very strong note of cantaloupe. It is more like an artificial cantaloupe drink mix, than the real fruit.

Thanks Fenius. There are some 'Fairy Blush' at nursery but they're $199 - ouch! I am obsessed with magnolias/michelias though (even though I don't have any space for more). Love the fragrance & flower form. Ahhh wieseneri...one fine day...

Daisy Gardenia and Hibiscus blooming! Finally my nose is getting active smelling the gardenia :)

    Loving all the pics!

A couple of my favorite scents are starting to bloom.

Brunfelsia gigantea. Wow! Love sniffing this one day and night. Wish it was always in bloom. Only one bloom open right now but the scent travels around under the arbor.

Jasminum sambac. Who doesn't love these?
Purple freesias giving their last hurrah.
Almost forgot. Thanks to our extremely mild winter the Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Madison' made it through with flying colors in the ground and is currently blooming.

look at this beauty which simply scenting this whole month!

    Lovely flowers everyone!

My 'Snowbird' azalea has quite a nice fragrance, similar to viburnum carlesii.

Magnolia sieboldii in flower but only high up out of reach. Boo. The buds lower down should open soon - patience!
