Kurt, if you specify by Latin name what you are looking for, I might be able to oblige. E.g., valeriana officinalis or centranthus ruber.

I'm looking for valeriana officinalis....for the roots, eventually.

I could trade some tomato or pepper plants for the valerian if you like. Possibly some flowers however most of my flowers are either really small or starting to get leggy..... A master gardener I am not.

I also have lots of run of the mill standard orange daylilies.

I have 9 seedlings of v.o. growing in 4" pots in my greenhouse. You may have been more successful with your seeds—mine came from Select Seeds and were started a month or so ago—but you're welcome to one of mine. No need for a trade, though if you have a 'Black from Tula' tomato to share, I'd take that. Would be easier if I could share my email address with you, but I'm not sure how to do that.

I just planted mine yesterday. 100 seeds in the pack from johnny's selected seeds. Their germination tests say they get about 50 percent success but I don't necessarily grow under optimal conditions. So.....I should have plenty of plants if I don't let them die and only get 20 percent. I just wanted a more established plant for insurance.

Thank you for your offer but I'd feel better if you kept yours since you have so few. I believe someone told me that I can buy a plant at Mother Earth Gardens when they eventually get their plants in. Otherwise they seem hard to locate.

I'm not familiar with the 'black from tula' but I have some "black crim"...not a lot but I could spare one or two.

I also have been told there is a " Twin Cities Perennial Exchange" group on Facebook which may or may not be a good place to look. There is an "annual spring plant exchange" on June 4 th at 7000 central ave ne. Free and open to the public.

You're bound to get quite a few valerians out of that; wish I'd thought of Johnny's. As far as established plants, you're right, few carry it (possibly because it's been declared invasive in MN).

Oops....I didn't realize that it is considered invasive. I understand it does grow like crazy ....like mint, I thought.

Do do you know if it is regulated against or aside from keeping it in a pot, is there something I should do to contain it?

I don't know about regulations. I do intend to keep mine from reseeding, which I think is more the problem than mint-like stolon growth under the soil. Could be wrong about that. Last year I saw a large specimen in a Summit Ave front garden and was very impressed. That's what started my quest.
