@DENISE - oh you have a cutie! I ordered it from Bob Smoley back in August, I have never seen it in any plant shops in person. I'm surprised I kept it alive and it's still growing pretty well except for the dropped baby leave today :(. hopefully I'll get some better growth. The long elongated heart shape is driving me nuts lol.

do you know why it's all facing downwards instead of upwards like the older leaves near the pot? thanks for your reply!

PS. you have some impressive kerriis! If you like this plant and are interested in trading I would love the 'Splashed Kerrii' or some other Kerrii (not the hairy or veined). Let me know? I can trade this plant (my 2nd one) - see links (couldn't upload for some reason).

When I kept kerrii, it would get funky leaves if I watered it too much or kept it to humid in the grow room. What's your watering schedule like? What kind of soil is it in? From the pics, it looks like perhaps the soil might be too dense for kerrii, they are so succulent that they do better in super porous (like extra porous) media in my experience.

@tawnygrisette: it's in a c&s mix from home depot, these were one of the first plants i got when i first started getting into "succulents". i only water when it's dried out. may be every 1-2 weeks I'll give it a drench and let it dry out completely. i have propagated one and there's no issue with that small plant, and it's in the same are. sigh.

Hm. Personally, I find that mix to be very heavy for Hoyas. Actually, the first kerrii I bought came in that mix and it never really did well until I transplanted it into a different mix. It's kind of counterintuitive, because I thought sand meant light and airy, but it actually gets really compacted (in my experience).

Anyway, who knows sometimes with Hoyas! Yours actually looks pretty good to me. Maybe uproot it and see what the roots look like?

I am with WL on this, was actually not watering enough and kept getting stupid ugly leaves which I hacked off and gave to friends wanting them, and then I started watering by drenching it until water ran through, letting it drain in the tub about an hour. Was also getting strangely stunted leaves, and now they are coming in much nicer, and faster too.

@kim: perhaps I should hack off all the distorted looking leaves and hope for better growth! i don't mind since it's a bit of an eyesore. I will probably pass along the ugly leaves to my friends lol.

There were just a few in particular that were extra funky, sticking up like a flag. And hey, the way I see it, is if they have the patience to root and grow kerrii from a cutting (and the heart to do it with an uglier one), then they have proven they are to be trusted and earned the right to nicer specimens and starts from my collection. ;)
