My local dealer has them all the time. They come from the same guy and probably the same plant as it has always been offered there for sale over the past 5 years. I saw some this morning.

Think it is all about locality. I found one at a garage sale when I was a teenager, which I promotly killed and then didn't see another one for well over 10 years. We have a local place that gets them frequently, I picked up a small one not long ago. Trying very hard to not kill it.

Also, I think people overuse the word "rare" to try to sell plants that don't know any better. ; )

Exactly, Kim. I don't use that word on my ebay listings, even if what I am selling IS rare.

Adaorand, how much do they charge for one rooted cutting up in NY ?

Marco, I haven't found any, cutting or potted. Lowes, HD, Walmart all get theirs from EA. I've gone to locally owned businesses and have found nothing. I used to see Hindu Rope often, but now the solid greens are few and far between.

I am in Albany, NY and there just aren't many places to select from other than the box stores. Oh, how I miss all the greenhouses and nurseries that are in the warmer climes!

Who is your supplier? I have the solid green but am searching for the variegated.

Believe it or not I bought one a couple years ago from Whole Foods. It was a nice 3 stem plant for about $6.

I haven't been there recently so not sure if they're selling them right now.

Gardino has it for $12. Cowboyflowerman has one listed on eBay for $10.

Accents for Home and Garden has it for $6.

Yes, but add in shipping. I can't justify spending that much for a 2 or 3 inch pot and I already have a small variegated, thought I'd like to add to it.

Shipping sucks, but that is why you can never just order one plant at a time. It is much more economical to get 6, right? ;)

I just bought a variegated compacta from the violet barn. I also live in NY, the finger lakes region, so the violet barn is about a twenty minute drive from me. I hear the plants they ship tend to be small, but am spoiled in the fact that I can go pick out my own plant. It was $6, if you are ever in the area I recommend going to visit, they have more Hoyas then what they offer online and some are full sized beauties for good prices!

Kinda jealous of you now April. ;)

It's funny because I only recently got into Hoyas, and through lurking heard of the violet barn, which lead me to almost place an online order before realizing it was in Naples which is where I graduated high school and a twenty minute drive from my house!

Monica, what approximate length are the stems and do the 4" pots contain multiple stems? Are single stems rooted or just cuttings? Thanks.

The single stems are rooted and in a 2" pot. They are about 4-6 inches in length. The 4" pots have about 3 rooted stems 3-5 inches long.

They usually have the common types by they got a nice big delivery on Sunday of healthy Hoyas.

Locally here there is a garden and pet center that is locally owned with 2 locations. The one has great plants, the other serves up a free side of mealies with every purchase...

Anyways, the nice store gets both types of carnosa "compacta" from time to time. Well established, nice sized hanging pots run about $25 (think EA boxstore hoyas for size) and smaller 4" pots with one or 2 stems for $4.99. I bought a small solid green last year to see how it grows for me (I am fickle about which variegated things I enjoy, and this is one where I much prefer the solid green)

I would just keep looking, or maybe take Monica up on her offer to help. Maybe there are some random feed stores, hardware, or garden centers that carry plants you are unaware of? Sometimes you find the nicest plants in the oddest locations.
