Hope all is well there. It sounds like it was a scary night.

OK well the camper has cellulite not cute dimples but hey no broken windows and garden had NO damage. Even from the flying rain barrels I just scored and had set up ready and waiting for the massive rain we were supposed to get. Which we didn't. Less than 1/8 inch in my gauge. That was probably from a hail stone. Lost quit a few apricots but that tree needed thinning anyway so that's good I don't have to do it. I have to talk myself up to pull off potential fruit even tho its what's best for the tree. don't tell little man. He checks daily.

I'm glad it wasn't worse than what it was. The rain mostly missed us yesterday (we might have had 0.01") but we're getting it today.

WOW, Kim, sounds like a heck of a storm there. So far, just nice weather, and yesterday a gorgeous sunset.

Kim, There was horrible hail yesterday in western North Texas, from southwest of us to southeast of us. I watched it on the radar and just hoped we wouldn't get that sort of storm here. Hail to the size of baseballs destroyed about a dozen homes in Sunset in Montague County. I was thinking about you and your son, and your places when Sunset got hit. Then the storm roared across Wise and Denton counties and proceeded east, dropping hail of all sizes here and there and hitting Wylie with baseball to softball sized hail during the evening rush hour. All 19 Wylie school campuses had damage and are closed today. Can you imagine? People on highways got hit hard and had no way to get off jam-packed roadways to a safe place. The DFW metro area already had had two March hail storms that did over $1 billion in damages, and now this third day of hail will add to that. It looks like it is going to be one of those years. The D-FW metro doesn't seem to get hit with big hail nearly as often as central OK gets hit, but this year so far, the D-FW metro is having an awful year. I hope your family members in the Denton area are okay and didn't get hit by the big hail.

I was thinking yesterday about all the gardeners who were having their gardens and landscaping shredded and, of course, they'll have to worry about the damage done to their homes and cars too. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have everything hit so hard at once. It did happen to my parents once---baseball to softball size hail knocked out all the windows on the north and east sides of their home, and put baseball sized holes through their roof and even through their home's exterior walls. Dad's garden, of course, got demolished, but he just replanted and carried on, the way gardeners do.

It seems like it never fails. In a year when we are warm and dry in February and March and get to plant early and get things off to a great, early start, we usually have rough weather in April and May that often hits gardens hard. We did not get big rain here yesterday---less than an inch---but big rain is coming later this week, particularly over the weekend. I hope to get as much work done as possible between now and then. Hopefully it will be dry enough to mow tomorow because we need to mow or the yard will look like a pasture after the coming weekend rain, and it should be too wet to mow then.

Hooray for the rain. Maybe you'll get enough to make up for getting shorted the other night. It is raining here too, but the rain is so light you can barely feel it hitting you. It is like a very light mist. We are supposed to have rain overnight and tomorrow morning as well. I hope we get enough to actually add up to something in the rain gauge.

The meteorologist who goes by initials on FB is showing some rather interesting rain predictions for this weekend. One of the stations was predicting 2.5 inches, his is considerably higher....with of course all the caveats of it being so far out...

For the last couple of days, the QPF has been shifting the heavier rainfall amounts further and further north and west. Some of us who were in the 3-5" category have watched it move away and leave us behind. I hope that NW OK gets all the rain they need to end their drought and maybe even save the wheat crop and refill the ponds. And, of course, as the models change, the QPF will change along with them. Here's the latest:

7-Day QPF

I was just looking at a wheat field in Payne County. It is nice and green but still pretty short (16"). I hope it can recover. Last week the leaves were curled up tight. I'm guessing it was a reaction to water stress.

I imagine it is drought stress. Or, maybe all that wicked wind y'all have had up there in northern OK in recent weeks has scared it and it is cured up to hide from the wind. I'm hoping they get enough moisture to save the crop, and not so much moisture at one time that they get moisture-related diseases.

I am going to stop looking at the QPF. Earlier in the week, my county was in the 4-5" category, I think, though I doubt we would have gotten that much---I was thinking 2 or 3" might fall. So, the last time I looked at it, we are in more like the 1.75" category on the 7-day. So, maybe we end up with an inch of rain. Or, maybe not. The cooler weather with lots of moisture in the air feels good, but working in mud in the garden really isn't enjoyable.

I spent two days recently watering our potatoes. Not as bad as it sounds though. They have a nice library there, with WIFI.

I cannot imagine watering potatoes for two days. It is worth it though. Farners and gardeners do what they have to do to get a good crop.
