The first job is to identify what the vines are. 'Vine' just describes a plant's habit, like 'tree', and tells us nothing about its needs. If you put some pictures on the Name That Plant Forumwe'll have some names and can start giving advice. Looking forward to seeing some photos.

Plus...I'm in Zone 5 and it's still very early for many plants. I haven't seen any deciduous vine's green out yet, not a one. My suggestion would be to take a deep breath, possibly two, and wait for spring. It's taking its time in many areas so far this year. I'd wager your plants are just fine.

Thank you both! My guess is that they're clematis, but I'll try to get a photo and post it to the suggested thread. As a newbie to vines, I guess I just don't know what's 'normal' when it comes to growth, so I'm grateful for the advice :)

There isn't a 'normal' for vines. 'Vine' just describes a plant's growth habit and covers everything from pole beans to grapes via hops and poison ivy. If yours turn out to be Clematis you'll need to be aware of their specific needs according to type. There is a Clematis Forumon GW with lots of knowledgeable people ready to help.

I see you have already posted over there on the assumption that these are indeed Clematis.

If you post photos of the vines as they look now, either here or on the clematis forums, they can most probably be IDed as to whether they are clematis or not, and if not what they are.
