Going rate for soybean meal?

This posting is cross-posted in the "Lawn Care" forum....

What is the going rate for 50 pounds of bagged soybean meal? In southwestern Connecticut, I was able to find it for around $23/bag last fall. After putting in even more calls further out, I was able to source it for around $20/bag.

Is this price reasonable? With a relatively large yard (lot is 2+ acres), I will need to buy in large quantities and would love to get a great deal if I can.

I'm wondering what price others in the United States pay for soybean meal and which state.

With spring upon us, I figure now would be a great time to acquire soybean meal before dropping an initial application on the lawn in early May.

In Central Iowa, 50lbs was $14.

Here in Montana I pay 13 and some change. But, I would pay 20, I like it that much. Still cheaper than synthetic.

Now, that is a very high endorsement of soybean meal!

Does it matter whether the soybean meal is pelletized or not? I have a push broadcast spreader and assume it is fine that the SBM is not pelletized for feeding the lawn...

High endorsement, maybe, when I find something I like and it works I scream praises :) !

The kind I use is meal (ground) and I also use a broadcast spreader as well. I just spread my first app this week before the over due rain came. I'm a little late this year I usually do it the first of each month.

Talking about rain: I'm planning to put soybean meal on Sat and we are expected to receive rain on Sunday & Monday, on Sunday close to an inch. Will that wash out SBM?

no, it should be fine. . . watering in is what you want to do with SBM. If you can plan it around rainfall all the better.
