Tulips in Southern Ohio

Season here has been mixed. Sub-freezing temps in early April did some damage; at the least, the viewing weather was bad. Now we appear headed to an above-normal pattern, with flowers burning in the near-80-degree temps. Such is spring gardening in the mid-section.

Tulip Big Smile with a small-cupped narcissus (similar to Barrett Browning)

Here is the more mature Beauty of Spring that
shows its soft yellow coloration.

Bright Parrot (a bit gaudy)

Here are some earlier tulips that are nearly spent now.

Tom Pouce with Magic Lavender. The latter, though quite short, lasts a long time.

Banja Luca at hospital garden I tend

A mixture that didn't have labeled cultivars. The bicolor is Gavota, which came from previous years.

I appreciate these pictures a lot. I "liked" both of them but commented on a daylily forum. There's so many of them, I'm thinking the tulips come back for you year after year?

Some are in a hospital garden I tend, and yes, the Darwin Hybrids, Negrita, Purissima and some others are recurrent (but usually with smaller numbers).

Big Smile (in the picture) is also fairly recurrent. Otherwise, tulips are an expensive annual. Thanks for your appreciation.

A bit late to the thread but glad that I see this! Just awesome display of tulips! I love the lavender Shirley a lot as well the striping of Grand Perfection. I planted some Shirley a couple years ago but they did not come back this year. :( What is the name of those gorgeous parrot pink tulips, Mantis? I would really like to add them to my garden this fall.

Beautiful! What a fantastic show, I love it.

A hard freeze damaged many of my daffs and tulips and now several of the tulips are blooming stunted and on short stems. Sad to see but still better than seeing snow :)

I remember the hospital bed pictures you posted last year. You really do a great job with tulips and daffodils!

It was not a great year for spring bulbs--early warmth, then hard freeze, then hot weather--but there were some enjoyable periods. The parrots were in a mixture from Dutch Grown. I suppose the pink is Silver Parrot, but I am not sure. The only one in the mixture that I recognize for sure is Bright Parrot.
