Too late to transplant?

I have an Orangeola JM that is approx 4' high and 3' wide. I want to move it to a new location, but I fear that I waited too long. The tree is starting to bud. Is it too late to safely transplant the tree? By safe I mean will the buds/leaves survive the transplant? I live in CT which is zone 6. Thanks.

The answer depends on how well you transplant and how much loss of roots you cause.

I move things when I need to move them- I moved a substantial Shaina just two days ago. I dig big, water regularly for at least couple of weeks afterward, and sometimes rig shade with a sheet, some stakes, and clothespins.

It works really well.
