New here: my 4 hippeastrums and a question

Hello,

My name is Thomas
and I live in Belgium. After reading a lot on this forum I decided to create an
account.

Like all of you, I
became totally crazy about Hippeastrums. For me it all started only 1,5 years
ago when I bought 2 of them. The first one was an Apple Blossom. The second one
was a Monte Carlo I guess. I wasn't quite sure about this one.

Here are some pictures:

I managed to make
them rebloom last year at the end of december.

At the end of
October I bought 2 more, which I believe are Cherry Nymph and Aphrodite.
Aphrodite got two flower stalks. Cherry Nymph had 3 stalks but only 2 of them
bloomed.

But I've got a
problem with these two. The leaves won't really grow.. As you can see in the next picture.

This one is Cherry Nymph. The leaves are still kinda small, but there are 8 or 9 in total. They are placed at a South facing window.
I water them twice a week and I give some orchid fertiliser once in a while.

Is there any reason
why they won't grow right now? Is there anything I'm doing wrong to them?

Thomas welcome to the forum. Your photos are lovely. If you are like the rest of us you will run out of space to put them really fast.

Your flowers are all lovely!!

I don't detect anything wrong with your Cherry Nymph, your bulb looks healthy and I think it is just slow for whatever reason and it sounds like you are doing everything correctly. If you're watering them thoroughly twice a week I might cut back to once a week for this one for a while until growth starts again.

I just went looking for my Cherry Nymph also new this season and I see leaves about the height of yours but a few of my center leaves are actually dying!! So now I'll have to figure out what is wrong with mine!

Yours looks very healthy so hopefully it will continue to grow shortly.

I will water this one once a week for now. Thank you for your advice :)

I hope yours will be fine too! It's never fun when you find out one of your plant might be sick or something. Last year, my Apple Blossom got a little bit of Red Blotch. But now it's fine, I used cinnamon after cutting the leaves; and before planting the bulb, I placed it in some warm water, and it worked.

So hopefully yours will recover well!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Louana, there is a big chance I will run out of space, I guess :). I'm already looking for bulbs I will be buying next October. For sure there will be a Papillio.

I did already start with an experiment. I used some pollen of Cherry Nymph on two flowers of my Monte Carlo. Just to see if I was able to do it. And... it worked. I got like + 20 seeds which are floating on water for 2 weeks now. Most of them are forming roots. The cross won't be that special, I guess, since they are both red, but it's worth trying it :)

Well, I don't mind having this crossing disease. I can live with it :). But I don't think there are a lot of people who are breeding their own Hippeastrums in Belgium. So I guess I will need this forum to know how to take care of the little babies in the future :).
