Squash are usually planted 3 seeds per hill, 9' apart, in a garden, not sure how that will work in a pot? I would cut it back to one plant.

I've seen 6in pots at HomeDepot of squash with at least 10 seedlings in them. Looks like they just dumped a handful of seeds in each pot, watered it, waited a few days, and then want to sell it for $3. What a ripoff, and I feel bad for the poor person that plants this crowded mess and ends up with crowded weak plants.

Dont buy squash transplants,... just direct seed it. It works out much better, and is much cheaper.

But to answer the question. If I were you I would plants them as is, then a week later I would see how they are doing, and would take scissors and cut down the weakest smallest one, that way not disturbing the other's roots. I think two will do fine.

For large seedlings, you can separate them. But pumpkin and squash do not like roots disturbed.

Most of people just cut off the extra plants and keep one best seedling.

I've gotten away with leaving 2 zucchini seedlings only a few inches apart - they actually grow together okay and sort of end up like one big plant - but that was in the ground. If this is in a pot, I think more than one plant would be pushing it. I'm not sure how much pot space the roots actually take but the foliage of 2 plants might get unmanageable especially if you ever intend to move the pot around. Definitely not 3.

I totally understand wanting to salvage every seedling you paid for by separating and planting them all, but I've killed more seedlings that way. Unless your seedlings are so young that there are hardly any roots to untangle, it's really best to plant them all, see how they grow for a week or so, and then snip off the weakest one(s).
