Although I grow a lot of yardlong beans, I have never grown those. I would suggest looking at the seeds, to see if they are the same color. Most yardlongs sold in the U.S. have either black or red seeds, and there are multiple varieties in each color. As a rule, the black-seeded varieties I've grown have had short DTM's, and very large yields - but not always the best texture & flavor. Red seeded varieties are usually later, and have firmer, sweeter pods.

For spacing, I generally use 12-15" between plants; they will cover a 6' trellis (and beyond!) at that spacing. If your support is shorter than that, crowding them - such as 3-4 every 12" - should stunt the vines into a shorter height.

just opened the packets and they're both red seeds. decided to sow two of each, so we shall see how they differ. my trellis is 7ft. high, space is limited so probably can only do about 7 inches between each vine.

I order my yardlong bean seed from Evergreen seed. They have 10 varieties. It has been awhile and I can't remember what variety that I collect seed off of. I had the purple , but it didn't do as well. Maybe I should try another variety or two. They do like their water. I like the ones with the thicker walls. One needs to harvest them when they are young. The walls thin out if you wait too long.

Evergreen's "3-feet-plus" might be worth trying. It did very well for me, and the trader who sent it to me grew it successfully in Florida. It seems to possess some tolerance to salty soil.
