Ceilings are generally painted using flat paint; high gloss treatments are used to draw attention to ceilings. I'm guessing you want to downplay those 8 ft ceilings rather than highlight them, so flat paint is your best option :)

Here is a high gloss on a low ceiling

there's many factors why or why not to paint them gloss. in order to paint them gloss the ceilings will need to be in perfect condition or prepped to be perfect. we have done ceilings in gloss for our clients in seattle and I can tell you it's a lot of work but it's worth it. even the satin will need some work.

Satin is fine for kitchen and bathroom ceilings. The rest in flat.

Flat -- the white will still reflect light despite the lack of sheen (I have textured ceilings painted in flat in a 2-story living room & the white ceilings bounce light all around).

I've used satin on low ceilings throughout a home because I like the bit of sheen. I think it makes it feel brighter and lighter. Save high gloss for woodwork. Eggshell or flat for walls.

Flat unless you're really pushing the look with a lacquer finish.

I tend to like eggshell it stays cleaner.
