I am sure others might have better suggestions but the prepackaged name brand potting soil mixes should do well. Due to the expense of the name brands I make my own mixtures using the cheap bags of top soil, peat moss, soil conditioners ( very fine pine bark ) , perlite, etc. For my in ground I have removed the natural hard soil and filled in with a mixture of shreaded pine mulch and cheap bags of top soil, avoiding the cheap stuff that contains a lot of sand.

Hottina44 - do you have any independent nurseries/ garden shops nearby in your area? These are usually the best places to find larger bananas than what you may be shipped via mail order. Also ask the mail order company what size plants they have in stock for shipment. My Saba I ordered from Going Bananas was a foot tall or a little larger than a foot tall. Try contacting Going Bananas located in Homestead Florida.
