humanely trapping a badger

I live in Italy, where it is legal to trap badgers, and I have to do
it,since one (or two???) is causing too much trouble in my garden with
his messy digging. I've spent a lot of money and time reinforcing my
fence, but he always seems to find a way in, and I'm at my wit's end. I
bought an x-large Havaheart trap and plan to set it up asap. Now,this
badger is clearly very used to my scent and that of humans in
general, since the problem has been going on since last July ,and he's
raided the compost pile so often (I've stopped trying to compost),so I'm
wondering if pre-baiting would even be necessary. If any of you out
there have experience with trapping wild animals, I would be more than
grateful to hear about your experiences and advice. Thanks in advance!
