WTF(ungus?) is this??

I found this in my front flower bed today. It wasn't there this weekend. Is it a fungus or something? Or did something odd & nasty-looking get spilled in my flower bed? It's really gross!

Called slime mold. Not damaging. Will resolve of its own accord.

Once, and still, known as "Dog Vomit Slime Mold" this appears when moisture and temperature conditions make the right environment for them to fruit.
