Help! Vines overgrowing azaleas.

We moved into a house that has a bed of mature azaleas over run with stubborn vines like virginia creeper and blackberry and also has poison ivy and poison oak. I have tried to remove the troublesome vines, but they are so interwoven into the azalea branches and shoots, I can't possibly get them all. Pruning the azaleas back drastically will allow me to get to the base of the vines, bit will it kill my azaleas? Thanks.
