The hybrid shown by the user name "raymond schuck" is a hybrid from H.papilio with a TETraploid Hippeastrum, but not with a Cybister hybrid. My statement has no bearing on [the beauty of] its appearance, but its appearance has a bearing on its origin and thusly, on my statement about it.

The bulb was purchased from a seller on eBay. There is no guarantee what you will get until years later when it blooms. I am just glad that it obviously is out of papilio. I wish that I had a Night Star to make the cross myself then I would be assured that the cross is correct.

Okay thank you for the clarification. It reinforces my preexisting scepticism in respect to "plant material from EBAY" which does not prevent me from admitting that I deem you LUCKY that you obtained such an outstanding hybrid from this source.

I concour with the other commenters - the specimen "Giraffe" x "Jewel" is a major success. Thank you for the documentation, and keep a vigilant eye on your most precious achievements and acquisitions respectively. One year of neglect, and they might vanish within a crowd of more vigourous specimens - I speak from experience :(
