Be sure to let us know. I hear of tomatoes sprouting up in the kitchen compost piles - with our normally cool wet springs here though, it doesn't happen often.

I'll try to remember to check back. Yes I'm from Puget sound so I have an idea of what you're dealing with. I'd gladly trade away my garden friendly sunshine to be back there!

I had a volunteer grow amazingly well last year, which must have come from my neighbor's plant a few feet away the year before. I may have spread some compost there, but it wasn't a type I had grown or eaten--it was mini-plum shaped, or pear-shaped large grape tomato. It was the only one that didn't get diseased, even though I had amended the soil for the others and babied them. There is a little tomato plant in the same spot this year. I'm letting it grow. I do suggest thinning the clump down to one, as I did. Maybe it did so well bc it didn't have to deal with transplant shock or root disturbance. I just let it be and mulch with compost. Good luck!

There are often self seeded tomatoes in my garden in the spring. I do not let them grow as our season is too short to wait for those late germinating plants to produce. Those I start inside are already 4 weeks along. This year I am looking for any self sown seedlings of Reinstraube as the ones of that I started inside are not growing well. That variety's seedlings have been slow to grow for me each year. Even late producing plants will be better than none.

If the seeds that germinated came from those poor tomatoes you might get plants lacking in vigor. Or, the seeds may have been from some earlier fallen mature fruit resulting in strong seedlings. Please keep us posted.
