American ginseng that is.. Is your the chinese or american??? variety?

I kept some alive for years in pots. They got large enough to bloom but eventually I got tired of babying them. At my old house I would keep them in the coolest corner of the yard and put them under the house (in the crawlspace) at night. When I moved to the house I'm in now I would move them into my basement. I would grow them under lights if the days were really hot. A lot of heat sensitive plants can be tricked into tolerating the heat if they have a cool down every night. But you have to move them in and out every day depending on how hot it gets and how long the heat wave lasts. I did the same thing for Wasabi, which also lasted for years until I got tired of moving them. I also did this for one of those big leaf gunnera plants but it never wanted to grow. I once got Meconopsis poppy seeds to sprout but they were only happy as long as I kept them in the refrigerator (you wonder why the plants do well in Alaska).
