kitchen island counter top

I am currently making final decisions on a kitchen. It's a small 10x10 with island. floors are a honey brown bamboo with white cabinets and trim. my counter will be light gray quartz with white marble. my husband wants to do white quarts with small speckles on the island now. will this look weird?

typically I only see island cabinets a different color not the counter top.

10x10 is not physically large enough for an island.

My countertops are Cambria Quartz Bradford and my island is walnut butcher block. Look more lots of kitchens have different countertop on islands

Sophie is right 10x 10 is not large enough for an island are you maybe meaning a peninsula?

I feel that if you keep the countertops all the same color that the space will appear larger than if you break it up with two colors.

10x10 kitchen meaning about 10 ft by 10 ft.

Yes, we are aware of what a 10x10 space entails. And it is not large enough to accommodate an island and standard 42"-48" aisles for people to move or work in.

10x10 is my kitchen alone with the space around the kitchen the dining room and living room. island is somewhat in the living room. very similar to those kitchen minus the post.

Probably aimes55 is referring to a kitchen with cabinetry extending in an L shape with each leg of the L being 10 feet. Doorways and open spaces can make the room much larger. Home centers refer to this type kitchen as a 10 x 10 even though the walls are usually much longer. Or Sophie is right. There is certainly not enough room for an island in room that is 10' x 10'

thanks main line kitchens. I am other a professional by any means and am going by what I've seen home centers refer to my kitchen as. 10x10 L shape with island, open doorways etc. although I appreciate the questions I think we're focusing on the wrong thing.

You can definitely have different counter materials on an island - even if the cabinets are the same. I did a quick look and found several examples on Houzz. Here's one:

I vote for keeping it all the same in a small kitchen.

The photo shared from Instagram (@shans_refurbs) on this feed is actually our designers account & is her kitchen. The kitchen is 11'x10', with 42" clearance between the "L" of her kitchen & island. She chose to keep the same counter top on her island due to it's large size (62"x 56") but you can definitely do two different counter tops, as long as they compliment one another and the other finishes in the space. It is fine to have your island counter a different color or material than your other counters. It's a design choice.

We had that for awhile and didn't like it. We ended up going back to the granite place to get a small piece of matching quartz for the island.

People often opt for a quiet (read: solid) counter in their main/peripheral zones, and then do something a bit wild (read: dramatic, with lots of movement) on the island, to keep it from getting too overwhelming while showing it off. Very common, with or without different color cabinetry.

Thank everyone for your help. Its a scary process because of course I only want to do this once.

Ive been using the pictures above to help me visualize the different color counters.
We just plan to do a lighter gray on the kitchen "L" and a white on the island counter. Cabinets will stay white all around

The top photo is the kitchen im changing. I apologize that its dark but the recessed lighting was taken out at that time too. There was a wall where theres a gap in the floor that I took out. (Dont worry i checked it wasnt load bearing) Island will be going there.

New layout has the fridge on the wall to the right (where my husband is. And the stove is being moved about the area where the fridge is.
