Yes I agree with you- they are fantastic flowers. I would be more concerned if you fertilized too soon, as that could be damaging to the plant. You did the right thing by repotting, but as to if you repotted too soon, I do not know. I do know that you cannot reverse what you have already done, so at this point, it would benefit the plant more to just leave it as it is. Repotting while in flower will cost it no lasting damage, the worst thing that will happen is the blooms shrivel up and fall off. Other than that, it will probably do no other damage.

The reason repotting is recommend after the flowers fade is because that is the time it will be the least stressful to the plant. There is usually a period after flowering where the plant will rest for a little while. Another reason is that new roots will adapt to the media they are growing in but once they are formed, if you change the media/ environment they will likely die. So the best time is after the flowers fall but before it starts to grow again

The reason behind removing sphagnum ASAP is that it is usually used to keep the plants hydrated during shipping. The moss tends to break down fast and gets compacted restricting air flow causing root rot. Some people do grow them in sphagnum successfully, but they tend to be from areas that are very dry like Arizona. People for warm humid areas like Florida, do well mounting on a slab of cork. People inbetween like pots with bark.

So for your situation I think you did the right thing for the long term health of the plant The flowers might drop early but you don't know how long they have been open already so they might have faded anyway. I don't think you need to fertilize until you see some new growth.
