Air plant

So after I soaked this air plant yesterday, I noticed that the very bottom of the air plant was mushy and soggy. I let it dry outside and had it upside down and after further inspection the day after, the little stump it had peeled off and so did two outer leaves. This is what's left, the bottom is still a bit mushy. Will it survive? The only thing I can come up with was the bottom piece was already a bit severed from the plant and water got into it. I do my best to keep the stumpy end out of the water when I soak them.
