Many folks use different types of store bought mixes and some make their own.

Also make sure to have drainage holes with your containers.

Container plants need to be fertilized and root pruned as well.

I went to Griffin's greenhouse nursery and supply store and bought the Fafard RSi #3B grower mix to plant my fig trees. Has anyone used this mixed before? It made up mostly bark, peatmoss, perlite.

Yes, I had to act fast the plants are not dormant. I got them from hirts and placed them in bigger pots but I started to see mold growing on the top of the dirt so needed to get a better soil mix. This is my first time growing figs, so I should have done a better job researching before I bought them. I hope the plants make it after being stranplanted twice.

The mix I got looked like what I have seen in the you tube videos I have watched so fingers crossed.

Thanks for the advice on the fertilizer how much of the fertilizer mix do you give your plants?

I did about 4 holes in the edges of the pot and fill up the holes about 2 inches down....Good to go)

ahh... the Joe Morle technique! i swear by it! been doing it for 4-5 years now

every spring but in the fall i use the same ingredients minus the feed 5-10-5 or 10-10-10 just so the tree doesn't put any new growth late in the season.

This is my first year doing the Joe morle technique and I have my fingers crossed. I just called him to find out about starting my liquid feeding since we've had so much rain in nj that I haven't watered in about 2 weeks!

no worries on the JM technique. on my larger pots (20Gal) i put 8 holes versus 4. It's been raining here in Ma all week also. which is fine with me since i haven't had to water my trees yet. once the rain finally decides to stop i would then start the liquid feed every other week.

I ordered the super hosphate, bone meal, lime green and 5-10-5 to make the fertilizer mix. Very excited! It looks like a lot of people use this mix or variation of it.

Honestly, like $2 black earth from anywhere. And fertilizer. And strong light.

My Chicago CH grew like 3 1.5' stalks within like a month from a rooted cutting.

Get some cactus mix. It drains well and fig roots will rot if they are too wet. Where did you get these things? 4" tall?
