We have the same problem here at our house in Camp Verde. They scare the grand kids. I am pretty sure our grand son got stung on the arm by one while in the pool. The only thing that we have found is that spraying the plants around the pool for small bugs(aphids, thrips, food source etc.) that we don't see as many. We also keep the chemicals on the high side in the pool and they don't seem to like the water. We found this out by accident when my husband pored too much acid or chlorine(can't remember which) in the pool. Still swim-able but they didn't like it. They just started dying we think, found a couple dead. We had about 25, down to about 2-4 (last summer), its hard to tell they come and go so quickly. As like you they are coming from someone else's yard that is not paying attention.

Here's a recipe that won't hurt plants that I found to keep flies away and I think it has helped with the wasps landing in the pool too. Just spray liberally around the pool and yard before swimming. Just so you know, it's not my family members sitting outside in their underwear.. LOL. I took this off the web. Hope it helps...

Leslie as of 2 hours later the ones that did land in the pool are dead for total of 30. From what the pool guys says they land on the top and float with pool algacide they will die they can't float. We will repeat Sunday. We even had them climbing out on the pool deck only to die. Yeh Sorry for anyone thinking wasp are our friends, when you can't use the pool its not good.

Thank you for the info! I will try that. I do feel bad killing them, but you're right, if we can't use the pool they've got to go. One of my dogs got a bunch of stings on his face last year, I'm pretty sure it was the wasps. Poor guy half of his face looked like a bear it was so swollen. Had to give him benadryl and prednisone and watch to make sure his breathing wasn't impaired by the swelling.

We were in the pool all day today and I didn't see one wasp or bee. What has also helped us is that my husband dug up all the plants and bushes that attracted them in the back yard and transferred them all to the front yard. Then we proceeded to replace them around the pool with succulents and plants that won't get leaves in the pool. Maybe the wasps don't like any of our new backyard landscape. I hope..

All of our wasp are coming from neighbors who don't care about their yards(weeds) or watch for nest under their eves. We are sure there is more than one nest. We think maybe 3... 4-5 houses east, across the street somewhere and up the street somewhere. As of 3:20 Sunday my husband has scooped up another 30 or so. So that's about 60 and I am sure we are not done.
