The Shirazz is the tree on the right.

I don't know of any Japanese maple that can handle the wind better than the others. Your Shirazz should withstand the wind and sun better when the rootball is larger. Keep it moist and give it time. It has a small rootball relative to the foliage in the picture. That might take several years to even out depending on it's present location and watering schedule.

I would not recommend any of the reticulated or variegated forms for a full sun location. The foliage on these types will be very sensitive to a lot of sunlight and leaf scorch is commonplace. Same with Autumn Moon, as the very pale gold foliage is also prone to scorch in full sun. All of these types would appreciate at least dappled shade or protection from intense afternoon sun. That is even the case here in the PNW (pretty far north!) where our summer sunlight is not as intense as deeper into the 48 states nor is it as hot. But the Orangeola should be fine with adequate watering.

btw, the water on foliage being burned by the sun thing is just a wive's tale. That is not a cause of leaf scorch. But excessive sun can be!!

I live in the central Arkansas region. It's not always windy, but it can get quite windy at times. This hasn't affected my 'Shirazz' at all. Mine isn't nearly as leafed out as yours, and it can dry out quite fast in full sunlight. I just step up my watering it, so that its soil doesn't dry out. It sits in full sunlight all year long and does perfectly fine. Just so long as I don't let it dry out for any prolonged period of time. I've also sprayed down the leaves with water in full sunlight. I don't do it all the time, just whenever I feel the need. This never negatively affected its leaves either. I also agree that that's just an old wive's tale. Gorgeous trees you've got there. Just keep it from drying out, and it should do just fine in full sunlight.

Thanks everyone! I'll keep watering it sounds like the root ball is just a little small for the tree itself. I have a gator watering system I may hook up for overnight and into the day watering.
