Did your eggs come from a local farmer? USDA mandates that all Grade A eggs be washed and sanitized before sale.

My eggs come from Sobeys, Safeway or Co-op which are all major grocery stores here.

So would you use this compost on your vegetables if you had it?

If you ate the eggs, and nobody got salmonella, I would not be overly concerned.

I've only been vermicomposting since October but have already used what I've harvested two months ago to start our seeds in the garden. We don't bake all our eggshells before they get crushed and not all are store bought either, however all the locally purchased ones are washed in chlorinated water and have no "poop" on them and to tell the truth, I'm not in the least concerned, really. We rinse all our produce with chlorinated water before preparing and consuming. The bacterial numbers, if any survive at all, is going to be so small as to not represent a health threat. Actually meat preparation is a far greater likelihood to getting salmonella poisoning than from tainted vegetables grown in the garden. Now if we were to fertilize our vegetables directly with animal poop then that might be a bit scarier scenario.

Thanks monomer! I actually eat my veggies from my garden without washing them. But it sounds like it should be fine.

Carol, Just saying, I would never eat even organic outdoor garden grown veggies without washing them first. Eggs/eggshells aren't your only risk. Snails alone can carry some very bad parasites, and then you have the possibility of roundworms or other ickies from garden visitors like toads, frogs, birds, bugs, pets, pests, local varmits like possums, racoons, rabbits, mice or rats. Possibly other creatures like deer, foxes, owls, hawks, maybe even coyote or lizards depending on where you live. No garden I have every seen is a entirely sterile environment, even in a greenhouse, and completely hydroponic. Think about it.
