Group yarns by weight, since most patterns require a certain weight of yarn. You will find it easier to stash bust by combining different colors in the same weight for a pattern. Enjoy!

I sorted my stash by weight, each weight in a separate bin. Then grouped similar colors within each bin together.

Not sure if this will be helpful but I have quite a bit of yarn and I've started organizing it into the stash records of Raverly.com. I don't have a good spot in just one place to store it, so I keep it stored in a couple of places but boy do I hate having to dig around to find what I need. With Ravelry, I can just note where it is stored in my stash record which is so much quicker. It's been a bit time consuming to enter the yarns into Ravelry but I think it will be worth it for a lot of reasons. With everything listed online, none of my yarns will get over looked or forgotten about. The stash section offers everything I would need to know about the yarn as well as other projects people have used it for as well as all the other colorways it's available in and I always have quick access to know how much I have on hand no matter where I am. Lastly I like the idea of going full circle on the site in that I post my projects as well. In the projects section, I can make notes about the pattern I used, have pics of what I made, who I gave it to and so on. I say this very quietly so they can't hear, but it's such an awesome resourse, hard to believe it's free!

I love Ravelry and have been a member since 2010. I have listed all my projects & notes on my project page. It is so nice to be able to refer your knitting friends to your project page when they have questions about a knitted item you are wearing! Ravelry is a wonderful place to keep track of stash, patterns, your library, queue, favorite patterns and communicate with knitting friends.

If you do a pattern search, you can get many ideas to use up your stash. You can also look under the yarn tab, type in your yarn and see links to patterns that call for that yarn.

Also check into knitting guilds near where you live as well as your local yarn shops, LYS for stash busting workshops. I have given stash busting workshops at both my spinning and knitting guilds, see the photo below, which focused me to do many stash busting projects. Also I have given talks at my local library on how to use Ravelry that have been well attended!
