Utricularia gibba looks like mush

I got a small sample of U. gibba 6 months ago and i put it in a 1 L glass container with some rocks in the bottom. I live in the southern hemisphere so it had all summer to grow nicely. For some reason though mine grew to become some kind of blotchy green mush full of air bubbles instead of the thing you see in most pictures (with defined "branchs" and all that). What could be going wrong?

I know absolutely nothing about raising these kind of plants so feel free to give me all kind of advice, as basic as they may sound.
