Tiller Help

We just had a tiller donated to us and brought it in for a tune-up. It was working fine for awhile but then started to shut off on its own every so often. Eventually it started to smoke so we shut it off.

We gave it a little break and started up again. Everything was going fine but then it shut off again and we can't start it up unless the choke is closed (I believe) and then it'll idle but we can't run it. Once you start opening the choke it goes off.

Any ideas we can try other than bringing it back in? (We actually have no means of bringing it in and had to pay the repair shop to come pick it up and drop it off.)

Any advice is appreciated.
