Hello all

I really wanted to come tomorrow, but I'm not going to be able to make it happen. We started the raised bed building/leveling/filling tonight, but the work is harder than expected. The beds are to be located at the edge of our driveway, and we are running into hardpack and hard packed dirt. We will be lucky to finish them tomorrow, and my husband isn't available to help me Sunday. My tomato plants are looking very sad and really need to get into the new beds (it was a last minute decision to put in beds at home for veggies- I have been renting a plot at a community garden for several years).

I was looking forward to meeting all of you and hearing about your gardens. Maybe next time.

@NHBabs told me about this swap last night but I didn't see the post until this morning (we had guests and I wasn't on the computer). I would LOVE to attend!!! We live in southern NH, 20 minutes west of Nashua, and we're just staring to work on the landscaping in the house we bought 3 years ago. I don't have anything to trade but I'd love to see a master gardener's work! I'm always looking for ideas.

Unfortunately, I woke up with a migraine, and I'm waiting for the pill to work. They don't always.

If I miss this one, how often do you hold them?

I believe I have Kathie's raffle prizes, along with someone's bee skep candle holder and also the glassware that the stuffed grape leaves were in. I also have a seed book (Martha Stewart) that was left in the house that someone probably got from the raffle table. Let me know what is whose and I can get them to you at the next swap.

There was a lot of interest in the glaucidium so I wanted to post a picture of what it looks like in flower. These pictures were from a month ago. I've tried it from seed a couple years in a row, both starting inside under lights as well as wintersowing and direct sow, but have had no luck whatsoever with any of the three methods.

It's amazing how much a bed fills in within a month's time.

Viburnum rosace was blooming with large, white flowers in the backyard and drew a lot of interest. This is what it looked like two weeks ago. It starts out with a sort of chartreuse green flower, which turns pink and then opens fully to white. It really is an outstanding viburnum. Amazing change in just two weeks. Wouldn't even think it was the same shrub!

Another plant I meant to point out to a lot of you is one that I just recently discovered called upright wild ginger (which reminds me, Lisa, didn't you want some ginger? fall swap!) It's a very interesting shade plant and had been in bloom for a very long time but was not putting on much of a show today.....not that it's exceptionally showy, but I find it an interesting plant nonetheless.

Thanks again for a wonderful day. It is a rare treat to have so many gardeners wandering the garden and I had such a great time talking to all of you.

My plants haven't even made it out of the car! It is tiring to have so much fun; took a long nap when we got home.

Susan, thank you for the perfect, cool weather and the opportunity to see your extraordinary garden again. You have an artist's eye for combining form and color in authentic mixed borders. That is not easy to accomplish. We enjoyed seeing Tom (who is sooo tall) and Mike as well.

My two favorite things were that amazing mountain laurel- worthy of a magazine cover- and the viburnum roseae. (sp?) There were other things of course, such as the row of amsonia, the yellow peonies and those orange roses just about to bloom all at once.

It was lovely to meet everyone else and I agree about matching faces to screen names. But my memory is faulty so next time I'll bring nametags.

If any of you are in the Lexington MA (only an hour from Susan's) please feel free to visit my garden. I love talking gardens! Even if I'm not home you can visit. and just talk to yourself!

I came home with some new to me plants and was able to share some of mine as well. I have already started a search for that Glaucidium, I was going to offer you my first born for a start but she comes with wedding bills so I knew you wouldn't go for it!...lol

Thank you for the epimediums, they will be very happy in my woodland area.

When Diedre, Piera and I left the swap we headed over to the nursery to poke around. It started raining but they did have some nice unusuals and a beautiful display garden as well!

Hi, my husband and I attended our first plant swap in Tewksbury this past spring. It was great! Whoever owned our home before we bought it wasn't into plants, period! There was nothing here. Anyway, since the Tewksbury swap we started in one area and most of the plants are doing very well. We need to build up some more, so I'm hoping there is an upcoming swap. I don't think our plants are established enough to be broken up yet but we would be happy to bring some others things ....deserts, snacks??? Whatever may be needed?? Please let us know if we can come...where and when? Thank you

Susan, are you doing the plant swap again this year? If so what are the dates and can I post it to my mom's FB page. Some of her friends are asking because they don't want to drive to Mass for the other one. I'd have it here but it's too much if mom isn't having a Good day. Since her two hip replacements she is getting around a lot better and not in pain but the Alzheimer's has progressed rapidly. I cherish every good day and she loves to go out for rides, so we've put a lot of miles on the cars the pst few years. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, we went to a swap last year and wondering where and when the next one is. We only attended one (our first one) last year. Our home had no plants. This is our first bloom of last years swap, so they aren't big enough to break up. What can I bring besides plants this time, depending on the date and location.

Anne pasted away from Alzheimer’s on March 28th. If anyone wants to come take some stuff from her garden let me know. I will be moving out of the farm in Goffstown sometime this fall after we settle her estate, so if you want anything let me know and we can set up a time this summer for you to come dig some stuff up.

I'm sorry to hear about her passing. I only went to one swap at her house but the food, hospitality and plants were wonderful. You are generous to offer plants to people.

Becky, so sorry to hear. Annie’s onion soup was a plant swap classic. Swaps at the farm were always so much fun and in a most beautiful setting.

I remember having to take a detour one day years ago on my way up to Uncanoonuc Perennials and it took me on the road past the farm. I had to slow down when I was passing because it was CLEAR that a serious gardener lived there! It was so nice to see such a beautiful garden as I drove by. A week or so later I found out about a NH plant swap and was so pleased when Annie was the host and it was at the very garden I knew I wanted to see more of!

I would love to be able to dig up something to be reminded of Annie for years to come. That is so generous of you to offer.
