They both look happy, and I wouldn't be surprised if you get blooms on old wood on both.

NHBabs - hope you're right..they were killed to the ground the year before & have come a long way but they're a bit leggy..so jealous when I see these lush rounded ones that live in warmer climates..

Here's an update on mine! I'm still confused as to why the one that is already starting to bloom has leaves that look completely different from my others. It's leaves are matte while the others are more glossy. Wondering if they are two different varieties of ES? Overall they are doing MUCH better than last year!

    Matte leaves:

    Glossy leaves:

Kristen - looking good!..so were they supposed to be the same kind of plants?..still doubting if I will have blooms on some of mine..I don't know why your leaves vary..keep posting your pics..I'll do the same..

Zoomed on the pic..is the one that's blooming a lacecap?

The one that is in the beginning stages of bloom is the one i bought last summer and it was a definite endless summer. Had purple full blooms (not lacecap). The other three with the glossy leaves I purchased a couple years ago when I was just starting to garden and didn't pay much attention to what kind of hydrangea it was. I just knew they were macrophilia and they bloom as such. After doing research, I assumed they are endless summer because they grow on old and new wood. But now I don't know what to think!

Twist & Shout is a macrophylla in the Endless Summer series that's a lacecap..not sure how many but there are several Endless Summer varieties..

I should clarify that they were definitely mopheads when purchased. Now that my hydrangeas have finally survived a winter, it will be interesting to see what they do this summer!! Pretty happy with the flatboard method. Super easy to do and no maintenance needed throughout the winter. I'll post more pictures in June! Nicholsworth - yours look awesome! Glad we are both finally seeing results ;)

    Googled endless summer..saw Original, BlushingBride, Twist-n-Shout & BloomStruck..any sound familiar?..wouldn't be T&S (lacecap)..

I'm leaning toward some type of non-remontant lacecap on the shiny leaved one. A bunch of them have narrow leaves.

    springwood - so u think it's a lacecap?..so did I but she said they're mopheads..

The first year I had the glossy ones their blooms from the nursery were mophead. The next summer (which was last summer) I got only one bloom because they were transplanted the fall before and I didn't winter protect. It was a weak bloom, but I don't remember it looking like lacecap. The matte one was all mophead from nursery when I bought it late last summer. Well now it will be interesting to see what they all look like this year! Honestly not sure what specific ES they are - at the time when I bought them I just thought it was all the same. Learning more as time goes on!

would NOT recommend macs for this climate..I have paniculatas & arborescens..much better choices..just experimenting with the macs that I already own..looks as if my experiment will NOT be a complete success..some of the old wood has leaves but no sign of blooms..just bought 15-30-15 fertilizer to try..

here they are..bloomless ES original..Twist & Shout with blooms on the way but still naked at the bottom..

I've had TnS go naked at the crown a couple of times and the only solution for me personally was moving the plant. *shrug*
