Gold pineapple sage already blooming

last modified: 10 years ago

A couple weeks ago I bought a gold pineapple sage at a local nursery. It had buds at the time and its neighbours on the same table had buds and open flowers. It was in a fairly small container, maybe half a gallon, and it's about 1' tall. I have planted it and it's still blooming now.

I thought pineapple sage is only supposed to bloom in fall, so what's up with mine? Was it tricked into blooming early by artificial light or heat? Or could it be some variety which blooms early naturally?

In any case, this is the first time I've had gold (not green) pineapple sage. I love it and I'll try to preserve it through the winter if I can.
