Dang!

It's going to get COLD tonight - down to 39, 36 tomorrow night! Waz up with that? It's May!! Anyway, so I just closed up the windows in the GH. Well, I had to move one of my shelves to get to one window and discovered that my fungii had grown a vine through a small space in the adjoining shelf, so I was forced to snip it off. Well, that's ok, I don't mind starting another one. BUT as I pulled the vine down from the top shelf, here's what I discovered...

I guess for now, I'll put it in water and hope that the blooms will stick around, and then once the flowers drop, I'll go ahead and plant it in soil. I had no idea there were blooms up there! My fungii kind of roams about the GH and has one other open umbel right now, others budding up. Of course, maybe I should look closer!

Oh man! It was obviously very happy up on that top shelf. :D

Beautiful! I am letting my fungii grow were it pleases too, of course mine has a looong way to go. It is a fun one to just kind of let scramble about.

Sorry about your surprise cold weather! I think you have too many hoyas to take care of (lol). I've never grown fungii and some others because they want to go all over the place. I guess I'm too much of a control freak ;-)

Laura, you can NEVER have too many Hoyas.

I do see where you are coming from as far as unruly versions... I have diversifolia aff crassipes, imperialis, and kerrii and I am wondering how in the blazes I am going to tame them. And also trying to grow a couple pubicalyx as hanging baskets, while they are determined to climb all the things.

And speaking if unruly, Denise that australis sp tenuipes cutting I got from you? Crazy thing has 4 growth points, 3 of which are growing straight up. Crazy plant. I swear the sucker rooted as soon as it hit the dirt too.

Kim, Don't even try to get tenuipes to hang. It is an aggressive climber. Mine sits at the back of the GH on the floor with a trellis behind it. Before it went south a few years ago, it had grown all over and up the trellis to the ceiling and I was having to keep it whacked off the ceiling. Now, a few years later after a restart, it's halfway back up the trellis.

I love the way they look when they meander, but you do have to keep them enough in check that they don't wander where they prohibit access to windows, or access to cleaning or to other plants. It can be a challenge! And Laura, since you live in Florida, I can understand why you stay away from some of the wanderers. You guys get growth in one season that we see in probably 4 seasons!

Oh you make a good point about climate differences. Us poor Northerners need a few of the crazy Hoyas, just to make us think we live in the tropics. ; )

As for my tenuipes, I plan to grow that just like you do.
