etrsi, where abouts are you in zone 5? Are your dogwoods blooming?

I'm sure they're up in Canada by now. They show here (St Louis) about the time the Dogwood and wild honeysuckle bushes bloom (trash weed bush, but the hummers like it). The books say females are not seen much in May because they are nesting, but I've seen males around Dogwood time.

Northwest Indiana near Chicago. We have had unseasonably cool weather these recent weeks. Maybe that's it.

They finally showed up on May 20th which is almost 5 weeks after first reports for my area. Wow!

Glad you finally saw them-- kind of forlorn waiting for them.

I'm still waiting. The stand of salvia is huge and covered in blooms, feeders cleaned and refilled every 3-4 days. Still not a one :(.
