Bamboo is not the most durable. It's best chosen for its look as well as the fact that it's a sustainable product, with very rapid growth. Oak and maple would be good, or if you are looking at engineered wood flooring you can go with other species like hickory or elm, etc. Buy a good brand from a company that will stand behind it. If you get North American made hardwood, it's going to be acclimatized to your locality. Factory finishes vary, and you do get what you pay for. If durability is your top priority, I'd recommend an oil finished wood because you can spot treat it without having to sand and revarnish an entire floor.
