I'm new, so hey everyone!

I'm looking for advice on insulating vertical grow towers. In about 2 months, I'll be setting up some custom made towers that are 6"-12" in diameter and 5'-6' tall. I'll be adding a 12'x20' hoop house when temps start to go down in the fall. Ive never grown inside any greenhouse type structure before and was curious if insulating the towers during the winter is necessary. I'm in Texas and we normally get winter temps below freezing for 2-3 weeks a year. My thoughts are to insulate the plant and tower with fabric or burlap when temps are going south of 40-45. Lot of work but I like to keep producing year round. I may even get some type of insulation for the tower itself.

Additionally, I plan on shading the hoop house, leaving front and back open and installing a couple of vents and water with cool water in the summer to keep strawberries producing and I would switch to tomatoes and peppers in the towers that had greens. Insulating the pipe to keep the roots cool may also be necessary during the summer.

My experience with hoop house growing inside towers is zilch, but I'm a landscaper with a decent amount of knowledge on horticulture and organic gardening. I want to create a self sufficient agricultural system in the near future and am running small scale tests to see if it's a viable option to replace my current job or supplement it. I don't plan on selling much of what I grow my first year, since i don't want to set up markets and then my operation fail to produce enough to meet demand.
