@Depo, I would like to put in a range top with 4 burners and a griddle instead of builder offered GE standard 5 burner cooktop. Regarding cabinet - would I have to replace it to the exiting one can be modified to provide required truss support for rangetop?

@plan Do you think it would be $1000 costly or $5000 costly? Yes, there is a wall oven in the kitchen, which is coming out as well and will replaced with a different brand.

I really don't know the answer re: replacing the cabinet. I just know the one the builder is offering is not made for a rangetop. I think you would have to ask a cabinet maker that question. Do you use a griddle a lot? I have a large cast iron griddle that I lay over two burners on my cooktop. Could save you some $$$.

@Depo, yes I do use griddle a lot. Using my trusted lodge griddle is my backup plan but I would really like to have built in

I can't speak to difficulty or cost of retrofitting cooktop for rangetop, but my wife is really glad we went w/ 36" rangetop (think Lobo). She really likes not forfeiting cooking surface to controls. She declined my offer to get griddle, whether 36" or 48" rangetop, so she could still have 6 burners. She says her All-Clad griddle works great & gives more versatility. I don't think there's cooktop out there that has BTU rating of any of high-end rangetops.
