I checked prior to 1960 and didn't see a good match. Do you have any idea what decade she may have purchase it? Or what decade she planted it?

When I first looked at it, I thought Feedback, but I've never been good at identifying iris. So many look very similar. I have 3 in my garden now that look just alike to me, other than bloom time & one has purple based foliage, I don't think I would know them apart.

It does look a lot like Feedback. My mom said she planted them 3 years ago, but they were from a co-worker's yard, so who knows their history.

I think Feedback's beard is orange rather than yellow. Nice it has a double socketed terminal bud and maybe a lower one also. Very pretty violet-lavender color. Sorry I don't recognize it.

I did not know you can cut your irises as cut flower? Will that decrease the bulb like alum's? How do you make them last in a vase?

It will not decrease the vitality of the rhizome if you cut the flower stem. The opposite should be true as plant energy won't be diverted to ripening seed.

Cut iris have not lasted any longer in a vase for me. Fresh water daily is the best treatment.

I put iris in a vase all season. They last just like they do on the plant. The un-opened buds will open and take the place of the two to three day old blooms that are finishing.
