Why are you considering tile?

yes, you can put it all the way up but I feel like subway tile looks very high end, I would suggest updating your kitchen. Do this.

1. gut entire kitchen

2. paint walls a neutral tone, gray would look good

3. make a large peninsula kitchen with marble or white quartz counters and white or gray cabinets

4. add the tile

Just my opinion but seems ok painting over what's blue, the door....

Tiling the entire wall from counter to ceiling would look wonderful. Use white 3x6 subway tile. There is a wonderful product that is a self-sticking membrane that makes the installation very simple. I used it in my own kitchen.

Painting the door and the door frame the same color will make your door look much larger. Since you have side lights, make sure you paint the trim around them the same color also. If you end up not liking it, it's only paint and you can always repaint it.
