Rooting treubiana

Any suggestions? This one sure is taking its time for me. Have it bagged in a chunky mix with hydroton added in, bagged and under my light.

I guess I'm not the only one having trouble with rooting this one. I got it as a freebie from ricinfl (he always sends me one with my ebay orders) and I was ecstatic. I think I've had it in my high humidity tent for more than three weeks and nothing is happening. I've put rooting hormone on it 2 times already. It still can't pass the tug test.

I just checked mine, it is rooting! Hurray!

I wish I had a humidity tent, but I seem to recall Ric saying this one liked it a bit dry. It is doing well in a partly open ziplock, I am going to give it another week or two for the roots to get a better hold and then acclimate it to the house.

I love it! Much more sophisticated than my ziplock bags.

Treubiana was weird for me (may Zeus bless its heart cause I sold it off, gladly). It was indestructible - very tough thick plasticy leaves and a very rigid stem. It took some time to root, which was ok, because it never showed any signs of distress at all while rooting. And then it never grew for me above ground. At all. For a couple of years. So, I lost patience and said buh-bye. I hope it does well for whoever bought it. I did like that succulent quality to it.

Where have YOU been, greentoe? Missed ya! I still have the original treubiana you gave me two summers ago. It finally started growing this past fall.

OMG you're right it was you, Aurora! I do note these things, but I was too lazy to check. And it was a trade, not a sale, I see now.

I am SOOO glad it started growing for you! I always want my plants to do well for people. It's good for both karma and self-esteem. :-)

Well, good to know my truebiana won't be taking over any time soon. I did not realize it was such a slow grower when I bought it but it can be a runt in a pot for awhile. Is meliflua as slow as treubiana?

They are both slow and both VERY quick to abort new leaves if you so much as THINK about sideways glancing at them.

Hahahahah, this is what I get for an impulse buy. Probably should have gotten a full plant from Gardinos, and I might if I get frustrated waiting.

In the meanwhile, will have to keep an eye out for revolubilis to fill my craving for long leaved Hoyas.

Is H. revolubilis the same as H. sp. Kunming Kina? Or are they similar but not the same somehow? I have sp. Kunming Kina - Carol Noel was singing it such praises when I was getting a bunch of cuttings from her that I got it. Cute leaves; no flowers for me yet.

Greentoes, I believe they are one and the same. I just couldn't remember the spelling for Kunming Kina. This one is high on my wishlist and has been for sometime. Another one I covet for the foliage more so than the blooms.

I can see if mine is ready to cut once I get home. Or you can ask Carol Noel or Jan Sword - they both should have it. If you do not know how to contact them, pm me on facebook or wherever, and I'll hook you up.

Let me know, I know how to contact Jan so no problem there if yours is not ready.

Hooray I can't tug it out of the cup it's in! I see I'm in for a long wait for it to grow tho. That's OK because it looks fabulous. The other weird one I have is diversifolia. I swear it must have rooted in days. Within a couple of weeks I could see the roots circling around the bottom of the plastic cup two times. Now that I've potted it up, it's doing nothing. No new leaves. Stem isn't growing. It's fine, no drooping, wilting or anything but not growing either. Ah Hoyas.

Ha, just wait a bit on the diversifolia. I have that too, and aff crassipes. The diversifolia aff crassipes did what my diversifolia is doing now, rooted in a second and now doing its best impression of a brick. I expect it to do the same as aff crassipes.... hold out for warm weather and utterly explode into a what am I gonna do with you style of unrepentant jungle vine.
